The opening football match of the Paris 2024 Olympics between Argentina and Morocco faced controversy after the game had to be resumed behind closed doors. The match, which was tied 2-2 at the final whistle, saw a disruption as fans stormed the pitch and threw objects, including water bottles, onto the field at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne.
The official Paris 2024 website announced that the game would resume with no spectators present. Three minutes of play will be conducted with players given 20 minutes to warm up before returning to the field.
In the latest update, Argentina's equalizer by Cristian Medina in the 90+16th minute was disallowed due to an offside infraction. The final result saw Morocco win 2-1 after the match resumed with three additional minutes of stoppage time.
